You have often seen birds perched on electric wires and you have always wondered why birds do not feel the current.

Let me tell you today why birds do not feel the current?

Birds do not feel the current because the electrical circuit is not complete. If you think about it, birds are just sitting on a single wire. To complete the electrical circuit, it is necessary to touch the bird or the adjacent wire or something connected to the ground so that the electrical circuit is complete and the electricity passes through.

One of the reasons for this is that the copper in the electrical wires is a very good conductor of electricity and the birds are not good conductors so the current passes through the wires instead of passing through the birds and the birds do not feel the shock. Bird feathers act as insulators that do not allow electricity to pass through the bird's body.

But it's not that the birds don't feel the current. You've often seen birds die with electric wires. Whenever a bird touches two electric wires, it also receives an electric current which can kill it.

Why do we humans feel the current?

The voltage of the current passing through the two wires may be different. If the wires are connected to each other, the current will pass through your body as soon as you touch those wires and you will be shocked. This is also because you are on the ground with potential zero which will help the current to pass.

Now How the electric current pass through the wires?

The flow of electric current in wires is due to electrons, that flow in a wire carry current. The wire simple act as a pathway for electrons to travel. Wires are made up of metal which are good good conductor of electricity.
